'Change APN' menu does not work in all cases - change request
Reported by Nick Hibma | March 30th, 2011 @ 06:09 PM | in 1.5-MAS
I've set the APN to 'blabla' but do not get any love from that:
AT+CGDCONT?
+CGDCONT: 1,"IP","Internet","",0,0
+CGDCONT: 2,"IP","office.vodafone.nl","",0,0
+CGDCONT: 3,"IP","office.vodafone.com","",0,0
OK
AT+CGACT?
+CGACT: 1,1
+CGACT: 2,0
+CGACT: 3,0
OK
The Active Context is 1 and it's APN is Internet (the one I set in Network in System Preferences).
After trying a few things: It appears that you have to have set the Modem device to 'Generic Dialup' device in System Preferences (as is the default when simply addding a modem and filling in the phone number and username/password). This might be confusing to people.
I guess that disabling the 'Change APN' feature when an APN has been set in System Preferences, or the modem is configured as a 'Model: GPRS/3G' would be nice.

Not sure how possible it is to determine this through the system configuration APIs.
It does work fine with the Huawei modem device chosen, but mine don't have the option to set APN there, hence its inclusion in CW.
Will investigate.

This little mac app provides you with signal strength, network mode (GRPS/WCDMA/HSDPA), network name control over your connection, and statistics about your current connection (current throughput, total data transferred, connection time). It does this through a little icon in your menu bar (and a bigger window, if you want to see it), and also helps you keep track of your usage - no need for a nasty surprise from your provider.

APN in 'About modem' window is wrong?
This really seems to be a duplicate of #36 .
